Trying to find helpful beauty routine tips online is just as difficult as finding free parking in Indy. Between the weird viral beauty hacks like putting toothpaste on your lips and the advertisements for products you didn’t know that you needed, where is the advice that you can actually incorporate into your daily beauty routine? Look no further, because we did the research for you! After talking to three different Indy-based makeup artists, we have compiled the best tips and tricks to add to your everyday beauty routine. Also, including a few creative makeup looks that you can rock in the office!

Danelle French | The Bold Lip

When it comes to a creative yet professional look, Danelle French, the owner of Aesthetic Artist Agency (the pro of the pros), recommends a bold lip while keeping the rest of your makeup really soft and neutral. It’s a great look that can draw attention and make you look put together without being overly done. Keeping the eyes soft while still applying some mascara, maybe a nice neutral eyeshadow, and a little pop of blush. It just looks timeless, classy, and put together.

Danelle’s Timeless and Classy Tips

  • Don’t worry about trends. If you’re trying to find a good daily routine, find things that make you happy (like a lip color), and are going to be quick and easy for you. Then, you can build from there.
  • When you apply mascara and it ends up in places you don’t want it—which inevitably happens to all of us—don’t immediately wipe it away because you will make a mess. Wait until it dries. Once it dries, it will flake right off.
  • Stick to a cheekbone highlight. The tip of your nose doesn’t need to be highlighted, and it’s one of the things that look good in a picture but also look very silly when you’re going to CVS.

BONUS Tip!

French notes that when doing makeup for a fashion editorial, it’s important to balance the urge to make your looks pop with what is best for the overall photoshoot.

“You have to play the song and not your instrument. If you’re only worried about your part and making it stand out, then it’s not going to be a cohesive image. The hair has to work with the makeup, the makeup has to work with the wardrobe, and the wardrobe has to work with the lighting; it all interacts.”

India Hall | The Jewel-Toned Liner

India, a talented MUA from Aesthetic Artist Agency, suggests a smudged eyeliner look with jeweled tones as a way to incorporate more fun on a work day. Vibrantly colored eyeliners, like deep purples or deep greens, are perfect because they are less intense than black. They create a decent level of drama and a nice pop of color in the office that’s fun!

India’s Fun and Feel-Good Advice

  • When you’re a beginner, the makeup world can be overwhelming and intimidating, especially with tons of brands, products, and techniques to choose from. When starting a beauty routine, start out with two products you really love and expand from there. You can always add or take away from your beauty routine!
  • Beauty is self-care. It should be fun! You should feel empowered and ready to take on the world. It isn’t a chore, it’s not a tool to shame, and it’s not another set of rules to follow. If it ever feels like any of those things, you’re doing it wrong.
  • There is a viral beauty trend where people are placing strip lashes on their lower lash with the glue applied on the lash and then blinking to make it stick to the upper lash line. This is unsafe and depending on the type of glue being used, it can irritate your eyes or even worse. Ouch!
Chie Sharp | The Faux-Glow

Indy makeup artist and hair stylist, Chie Sharp, recommends focusing on mastering a pretty faux-glow makeup look when it comes to being creative with your makeup in the corporate world.

“Add a nude lip and emphasize the eyes,” Sharp says. “I think it’s easier to get creative with eyes when you keep the lip a more neutral shade.”

Chie’s Amazing and Anti-Aging Recommendations

  • A new routine doesn’t have to be complicated. Start with a basic three step routine: cleanse, moisturize, and apply sunscreen. SPF is the best anti-aging tool you can own. Get yourself a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect skin from wrinkles and dark age spots (not to mention skin cancer).
  • So often we attach emotions and associations onto certain colors. This can cloud our judgment about how shades really look on us. You should wear what you love. Life is too short. If you want to wear black everyday, do it! If you are a bold color person and that makes you happy, do it! Look at what’s adding vibrancy to your life and do more of that.
  • When it comes to viral beauty hacks, sunscreen contouring and DIY aspirin masks are horrible ideas! You risk skin irritation and dehydration if you use a DIY aspirin mask. It is better to go for products that contain actual salicylic acid in their formulas. Sunscreen contouring has bad idea written all over it. Don’t listen to celebrities for skincare tips; instead, seek out an esthetician.
