About PATTERN

PATTERN is a key player in Central Indiana’s creative economy, dedicated to nurturing creative entrepreneurs and fostering economic and workforce development for creatives. In other words, our focus is on economic development, and specifically on the CREATIVE economy. We are not an arts & culture organization in the traditional sense, and while you might know us for our magazine, we are NOT a magazine. Our initiatives range from talent incubation to community events, with a little publishing and content creation sprinkled in, all aimed at making space for creatives and creators to thrive in Indiana. We are looking for ambitious, thoughtful, curious, hard-working, driven, team players who want to help us solve big problems.

As a 501(c)3 public charity, we know that the salary we can offer right now might not be as high as you’re used to, but the experience you’ll gain and impact you’ll make while working with us will be invaluable to our entire community–and hopefully you!

PATTERN is an equal opportunity employer.

Project/Event Coordinator

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Position Type: Contract position; (in-person) March – December 2024; 25-30 hours a week; Flexible schedule, with some office required Tuesday-Thursday, and occasional availability for events on weekends and weeknights.

We’re on the lookout for an exceptional Project and Event Coordinator who embodies the perfect blend of administrative prowess and creative problem-solving skills. This role is tailor-made for someone who thrives on organization, efficiency, and has a laser-sharp focus on details. You are the backbone of project and event management, where your keen sense of curiosity, common sense, and robust management skills come to play. With a strong grasp of entrepreneurship and the role of creativity in economic development, you’re not just looking for a job—you’re seeking a mission. You excel in a dynamic environment, manage multiple projects with ease, and can swiftly adapt to changing priorities. Independent, driven, and deadline-oriented, you’re ready to take on tasks with confidence and efficiency.

In addition to administrative duties, this multifaceted position requires a hands-on approach and a willingness to tackle a variety of physical tasks. The ideal candidate will be proficient with basic tools such as hammers and drills, and must be capable of following detailed instructions for tasks like building furniture, installing artwork, and setting up event spaces. Physical agility is essential, as the role involves lifting and moving objects weighing up to 30 lbs. Beyond desk work, you’ll be actively involved in running errands, procuring supplies, and preparing venues—ranging from gathering balloons to arranging cocktail tables. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys a dynamic work environment and is eager to contribute both behind the scenes and on the ground to ensure our operations and events run smoothly.

The events you would be helping coordinate are specific to PATTERN’s creative economy work and include the Creative Economy Summit, and a variety of smaller, regional events and industry specific forums. Most of these events are during the day and during the week. We anticipate hosting from 6-15 of the smaller events along with our signature Creative Economy Summit.

You Are:

  • Highly organized and efficient, with an unmatched attention to detail.
  • A creative problem solver who values practical solutions over artistic endeavors, and doesn’t mind getting a little dusty
  • Thrifty and hard-working, always finding ways to maximize resources with an “elbow grease” mind-set
  • A team player who understands the importance of collaboration but can also take charge and work independently.
  • Proficient in project management and administrative tasks, seamlessly integrating both to achieve exceptional outcomes.
  • Comfortable with technology, adept at using tools like Google Docs, Trello, and Monday.com for program management and communication.
  • Comfortable with tools and able to lift at least 30lbs
  • Driven by a desire to contribute to the growth of the creative economy through meticulous planning and execution, rather than through personal creative expression.

This Job Is Not For You If:

  • You are seeking a role where artistic creativity is the primary focus, rather than strategic problem-solving and execution.
  • You find strict deadlines, detailed planning, and systematic organization stifling to your work style.
  • You struggle with multitasking or get easily overwhelmed by managing multiple projects in a fast paced environment.
  • You prefer working in a static environment with your whole day planned, and a precise understanding of each and every task.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage a variety of projects, including events, with meticulous attention to detail and timely completion.
  • Balance creative vision with practical execution, ensuring all projects are underpinned by thorough planning and organization.
  • Demonstrate initiative and self-direction, working both within a team and independently.
  • Mentor and support our Interns and Fellows, guiding them towards excellence.
  • Utilize program management tools effectively for documentation and communication, ensuring a seamless workflow.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in project management, administration, event management, or a related field.
  • An understanding of the creative economy and entrepreneurship is highly valued.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a detail-oriented mindset.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, coupled with curiosity and common sense.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • The ability to manage time efficiently, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet deadlines consistently.
  • A commitment to high performance, with a focus on growth, efficiency, and productivity.

Compensation: Position starts at $18/hour
