A Look at Pitchfork ’23 in Chicago

Photography Jamar Mitchell

In 2006 Pitchfork Media hosted the first official Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago at Union Park, and over the years, it has expanded into Paris, London, and Berlin. And like any good festival, there’s plenty of food, art installations, and other ways to explore, but Pitchfork is known for its eclectic sets, featuring both established and up-and-coming artists with a focus on indie and alternative acts.

In 2022 the festival saw more than 60,000 attendees with a 112% revenue over 2021. This article offers an interesting read from the organizers’ perspective on the exponential growth. But back to 2023 . . .

This year’s lineup, highly anticipated per usual, included  Perfume Genius, Big Thief, Weyes Blood, King Krule, Kelela, and many more. I took three days worth of pictures and am sharing a few of my favorites here.
