May I Have Your Attention, Please?

When I say that my attention feels strained, I know I’m in good company, and I’m positive that there is nothing I can add to this conversation that you’ve not heard before. TLDR; our attention is one of the most valuable assets out there, and I’m convinced that–without giving it a second thought–we squander it, constantly.

I won’t bore you with the details, but let’s be clear that I’ve not figured this puzzle out. I’m just a girl trying to break up with her smartphone and her laptop and her Netflix account and her Switch. And by “break up” we all know I mean get control of my attention when this shit is within arm’s reach, right?

Because that’s what I mean. I want to take control of my attention. And I think of this act–however big or small–as my own definition of focus, the active and intentional use of your own attention.

This month that’s what we’re exploring, focus. From the stage to the office, from the lens to the page. Where you work, how you work. What you’re looking at, what you’re reading. Whether ADHD or ADD is part of the mix for you or not, focus is something we all wrestle with daily.

We hope in the following weeks, you’ll receive these stories, images, and resources as invitations to explore how others think about the value and power of focus, of attention.

We hope you enjoy!

xo,

Jenny

P.S. If you’re looking for an immediate recommendation, try switching your screens to grayscale (an accessibility shortcut allows you to toggle to a color screen if needed quickly). I was surprised by how garish the color screen felt after using the grayscale for just a few days.
