StreetExpo Brand Highlight: Click Gear

Are you a photography pro or hobbyist who wants to wear your passion? With products for men, women, children, and a range of accessories, including hats, bags, and camera straps, Click Gear is your answer for photography-inspired fashion.

Jacob Click: Please describe the motive or message behind your brand.

Michael Anthony: Click Gear is a brand inspired by my love for photography. For me it’s about making original designs that photographers like me are proud to wear.

JC: What prompted you to share this idea through your business?

MA: I felt that who I am stylistically and as a photographer was not represented by the t-shirts and apparel I came across online. There are a million places to grab a photographer tee on the net, but the truth is I wouldn’t be caught dead rocking one.

JC: What are some of the main challenges you face as an entrepreneur?

MA: I’m a working photographer, and running two businesses simultaneously is an intense commitment. With Click Gear I am a one man show so I have to be very cognitive of where I am spending my time between all of the different areas of the brand. I’m looking forward to cloning being a thing.

JC: What is the biggest reward you experience as an entrepreneur?

MA: Seeing people wear what I have designed and created by my own hands is so fulfilling and rewarding. I can’t quite put into words how amazing it is to know that I am about to ship my 1000th order and have sent gear to 46 states and 14 countries. It’s honestly mind blowing, and I’m so amazed by the support of photographers from around the world.

JC: What do you think Indianapolis can do to support more local brands?

MA: More events like the Street Expo. I think Indy is on the right pace to something special.

JC: Describe the kind of person who would wear your product.

MA: They are likely a photographer who is into tattoos, loud ass music, and pushing the envelope. Or not. It’s pretty funny because for every kid I just described there is an awesome grandma that loves photography who rocks Click Gear too.

JC: Who is one person you’d love to see in your brand?

MA: Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue. He’s a photographer. Google it.

JC: What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?

MA: Be patient. It doesn’t matter what kind of business you are building it takes time and a whole lot of patience. I also think it’s beyond important to listen to your customers. If people aren’t into what you are doing it’s OK to not sink with the ship. If people aren’t buying what you are doing, you have to walk away.

JC: How do you hope your brand will evolve in future years?

MA: I see so much in the future of Click Gear, but for now it’s still baby steps. I eventually want to create camera bags, some functional wearables, and other stuff that I personally love. I want to also continue to make this brand about the community of photographers surrounding it. Since the beginning I have said that as long as people love what I am doing, I will continue to do it because it’s not really about me. It’s about my fellow photographers.

JC: What do you think of Kanye’s foray into streetwear?

MA: I love Kanye like Kanye loves Kanye.
