SPACE takes emerging creative businesses to the next level.

Our SPACE Residency program takes the best of business incubators and tech accelerators and applies it to creative businesses.

SPACE Residencies provide creative entrepreneurs with:

  • Rent-free workspace or storefront
  • Generous stipend
  • Mentorship from established industry pros, including business development strategy
  • Support from a cohort of like-minded entrepreneurs
  • Dedicated time to grow your business
  • Enthusiastic support from the Pattern team—cheerleading your ideas, getting your brand in front of the right buyers, and throwing events that grow an audience and capture media attention

Free Space

SPACE Studios at the Stutz give creative entrepreneurs a rent-free, highly visible workspace or storefront in a well-trafficked, iconic venue in downtown Indianapolis.

Support

During his time as a SPACE Resident, Julian Jamaal Jones expanded his work and revenue streams by launching an accessory collection. Jones used the Pattern photo studio to complete a look book and update his online shop, JULIAN, resulting in two sold out accessory lines.

Events

2024 Resident Madeline MacKinnon of Frida’s Flowers leveraged her presence at the Stutz to host interactive events— including pop ups and workshops—that allowed her customers to engage with florals in distinct, brand-building ways. At one notable private dinner in partnership with J’adore, attendees helped create the tablescapes.

Ellie Garvey

Ellie Garvey is an Indianapolis-based jewelry designer and children’s book author and illustrator. Ellie also designs and fabricates jewelry collections for online marketplaces, group exhibitions, art fairs, and private clients.

Ellie is using her SPACE Residency to focus on book illustration and developing her painting practice.

J’adore

Founded in 2022 by Youssef Boudarine and Ariel Hendrickson, J’adore Pastry celebrates food, culture, art, and community. Youssef and Ariel partner with clients to create bespoke experiences ranging from artfully crafted pastries to intimate dinners.

J’adore also hosts Epicurean Indy, events that convene global chefs and artists, allowing locals to savor new cuisines and explore different cultures from the convenience of the Circle City.

On early challenges in growing his business, Romanus Records: “Keeping up with demand, growth, and the need for more space. My family and I built a studio onto my home a couple of years ago that I work out of, but I’ve outgrown it pretty quickly. The Stutz space was a huge blessing.”

FAQs

When are SPACE Residency applications accepted?

We accept SPACE residency applications on a rolling basis, year-round. Applications are always open!

What makes for a strong candidate?

Pattern is serious about serious creative entrepreneurs. Your business should at least be a “side hustle,” though candidates in the “start-up” phase and beyond will benefit most. Strong applications include a brand identity and a business plan with KPIs that outline how you will scale your work and how you will generate income.

What does a SPACE Residency include?

Every SPACE Residency receives free studio or work space, a stipend, and customized business coaching.

I’m not sure my business is the “right fit.” Should I apply?

If you’re uncertain about the stage or focus of your business, that’s ok. Please apply. We enjoy meeting with folks to talk about their current needs and future opportunities.
