People of PATTERN: Mallorie Wilson

What do your friends call you?
Mal or MalPal depending on which group I am in.

How old are you (if you don’t mind me asking!)?
27 years young

Where are you from?
Clinton, IN, which most people have no idea exists. So it’s easier to say Terre Haute, IN. Most people at least know of Terre Haute.

Which neighborhood do you live in right now?
Why? Do I need to worry about stalkers after this comes out? Just kidding. I live in Broad Ripple, and have for four years.

What do you do for a living?
I am a Regional Recruiting Coordinator with Aflac…a fancy way of saying I handle all of Aflac’s hiring for certain areas of Indiana.

What do you do as a creative outlet?
I do misc. crafts and I am a licensed cosmetologist, so I do hair for friends and family. My craft for the week depends on what I am needing whether it be a present or home décor. I have been on a home décor d.i.y. kick for the last month.

What’s the most interesting thing happening in Indy right now?
I really feel like it is the opening of Ruckus and having a makers space for everyone.

Favorite local brewery, distillery or winery? (Or if not a drinker, then favorite eatery.)
I am not a drinker, but I tend to find my self at La Piedad a lot, which is a Mexican restaurant in Bripple. In the summer, you can find me on their patio drinking a pina colada frozen margarita.

Last trip you took?
I spent five days in California traveling between San Diego and L.A.

How did you first hear about PATTERN?
A friend of mine at the time invited me to an event when I first moved here four years ago to help me network and make new friends.

What was your favorite PATTERN meetup and why?
This is a tricky one. Since I volunteer, I really can’t say I have a favorite because I have enjoyed every event I have volunteered at. Me and another volunteer, Terri, typically work the drink tickets table together, and it’s always a good time.

What event are you looking forward to attending this month?
The PATTERN volunteer Christmas party. It’s the one time a year that all the volunteers can get together and catch up since we normally just see each other at the events and we are volunteering so it’s hard to really talk.
