Feminine. Modern. Refined. Cool. That is how Rebecca Taylor describes her clothing. Raised on the beaches of New Zealand, the young designer infuses a sense of sport and playfulness to her collection that is fun and flirtatious, perfect for spring and summer. Ms. Taylor seems to be very aware of her appeal to a youthful audience, but is careful to not create clothes so young in appearance that they must be relegated to the Juniors department. Separates are especially wearable and valuable additions to any wardrobe.

For this season, Rebecca starts off with an over-sized mustard yellow lace top with carefully placed sheer panels over an off-white pair of shorts. Colors go on to blues and pinks in various combinations with plenty of lace and cotton knits. Shirt dresses make frequent appearances as do very nice slacks that are full around the hips and then tapered toward the ankle. This is the kind of thoughtful designing that makes the line so appealing across a broad range.

Two different floral prints are utilized to very different effect. The blue floral is darker and comes off quite commanding in a business suit with double-breasted jacket and slacks. The pink floral, on the other hand, is very soft and light, creating a sense of motion and breeze, especially in a short dress seen toward the end of the collection.

Along the way, there are some delightful sweaters, comfortable jackets, and very stylish shorts with sheer panels that are interesting without being the slightest bit risque. These are the clothes one might wear on those days when one needs cheering. They are happy, they are pretty, they are feminine but not in any way that might be considered boring.

Branded Rebecca Taylor shops are few and scattered, but one can also find the brand at bergdorf goodman, bloomingdale’s, macy’s, neiman marcus, nordstrom, saks fifth avenue, beyman, harvey nichols, holt renfrew, lane crawford, seibu, selfridges, and tsum.
