MWFW Grand Finale: Hoosiers Bring It Home

Midwest Fashion Week closed with a bang, as last Friday night marked the grand finale of the 11th edition of the heartland’s finest fashion expo. The live runway show took place at the Indianapolis Artsgarden and featured collections from seven distinct designers.

While the Artsgarden proved a functional location for FNO, it’s window-filled ceiling and acoustics worked even better for the MWFW finale runway show. Guest after guest poured into the venue, browsing the local jewelry vendors and scoring free manicures from the gratuitous students of Tricoci University of Beauty Culture, before taking their seats. By 8:30 p.m. every single seat was taken and several people even had to stand in the wings, all waiting in anticipation of the night’s events. Indy fashion brought the troops, and this time in full force, so we’re giving this event an A+ for participation!

Mr. Jamar Cobb-Dennard emceed the evening and set the vibe for a lively and energetic showcase, even making a few jokes to keep the crowd entertained, while we waited for the show to start (which was running just a little bit behind schedule.)

The two-hour-my-butt-fell-asleep show exhibited some amazing, some beautiful, and some downright odd looks (and even a near nip-slip moment!). In order to spare our readers’ derrières, we’ve recapped each designer Twitter-style – in 140 characters or less.

Anton Alexander by Anton Babich – @AntonBabich

Special occasion menswear aiming at personality and choice through shimmering pinstripes, untied ties and pops of bright lime and aqua.

Zathan Marcs by Nathan Davis

Gloomy, moseying models sport futuristic looks with faux fur. Highlight: silvery brocade gown. Lowlight: foam guillotine neck accessory.

Persévérer (PRSVR) by Brandon Williamson – @PRSVR

Show-stopping leather jackets with signature magenta lining beautifully contrast camouflage accents. Handmade luggage tops off urban looks.

Sherry Couture

Grace Boutique showed its clubbing finest with textured furs in cream in black, a bold plum romper and a stunner emerald party dress.

Ayesha Ibrahim

Pakistani native’s collection fused ethnicity and modernism to form a cohesive collection of ornate prints, lavish fabrics and vibrant color.

Perfection by Francesca Alejo – @PERFECTIONbyFA

Velvet hooded figures brought drama in oxblood and hunter green, followed by a Matrix-style outerwear piece on a smoldering hot model.

Gidi by Taneasha Prunty

Feminine evening wear with gold accents belted svelte models at the waists. Lace and delicate fabrics created ladylike silhouettes.

The MWFW Finale reminded us that Midwesterners love to express their own style and creative individuality. Tenaya and I left the event with a sense of pride for our Hoosier home. Watch out world – Midwest is best.
