Twin brothers Dan and Dean are apparently already thinking about Spring Break ’15. Once again utilizing a stage set resembling a converted industrial apartment and set to a hip hop soundtrack featuring the release of a new Fergie single (no, she wasn’t actually there), the designing duo hit the runway with a collection that is bright, flirty and apparently, “all about that bass,” whatever that’s supposed to mean.

Are we all going to the beach this next spring? We probably are if we’re wearing clothes from this DSquared2 collection. Right from the very beginning, the brothers send down a look so incredibly short that a beach-side boardwalk is about the only place where one might consider those clothes appropriate. The white top and the leather super-short shorts in a rainbow of primary colors is a little full in its cut, but really emphasizes a young woman’s back side, if you follow. The majority of looks also come with a bag big enough to pack an entire picnic for 20, possibly including a beach umbrella.

All through this collection is a very sporty, very fun vibe. We see a lot of layered baby doll tees and both skirts and ultra-loose pajama-styled pants sit low enough on the hips for one’s BVD’s to show a bit. Yet, leather is the dominant fabric in play here. While the colors are bright, the leather often runs pretty heavy, especially when used on a full-length skirt. Then, just to make things a bit confusing, the brothers toss in some looks with incredible amounts of ruffle. Why ruffle, I’m not sure, but there’s a lot of it and it can’t be missed.

Much more relaxed is the denim that’s had the living daylights beaten out of it. Whether in cropped jackets or jeans and shorts with the hems rolled way up, the denim looks are the real essence of spring time comfort. Of course, the denim comes in contrast to a handful of pieces that are dipped heavily in sequins, and a couple of looks that have very bright feathers around the hips. Sure, everyone needs a sequined bra/panty set I suppose, but the feathers are just silly.

Roomy, relaxed, and colorful, this DSquared2 collection is a fun, beachy, hip hop line that makes one wish Spring Break lasted a lot longer than it does. Sadly, the leather pieces may be a bit too much for the hotter parts of summer, but until then the fun is on.
