From The Renegade to The Runway – TikTok and Fashion Collide

TikTok is arguably the hottest social media platform for Gen Z to date. With a focus on creative, eye-catching visuals, and the latest tunes, you can find just about anything on TikTok, from comedy bits, to singer songwriters, and everyday vlogs, and that’s why the appeal is so high. I promise you, it is SO easy to fall into the TikTok hole and be sucked into watching for hours, and I have no shame saying that I am speaking from experience!

For fashion influencers, though, the app allows for new ways to create content, from virtual look books, to vintage clothing hauls, and sewing tutorials, the sky’s the limit. This round up of TikTok fashion influencers shows some of the best creators you should know about!

Gunnar Deatherage

Gunnar Deatherage is a designer and a creative soul through and through. His participation on Project Runway has accounted for a lot of his fame, but he is really a multifaceted individual with styling credits and work as creative director for stars like Lady Gaga, Jessie-J, and Ariana Grande. Additionally, he was featured right here in PATTERN magazine, vol. 15!

Now entering the TikTok scene, his videos, which get millions of views, feature his own unique design creations! His feed is filled with gorgeous dresses and hats, and he walks his viewers through every step. My favorite part is being able to witness his creative process and peek into a fashion designer’s life.

Brittany Xavier

No stranger to being an influencer, Brittany Xavier has been a fashion and lifestyle blogger since 2013. Her Instagram following is immense with over a million followers, and she has only gotten more popular since making TikToks. Her videos feature style guides, DIYs, and matching looks with her pre-teen daughter, Jadyn. Her sophisticated yet edgy style is chic to say the least, and her tips and tricks can take any outfit and make it look effortless and expensive.

Denise Mercedes

Denise Mercedes is a Dominican, plus sized, and New Jersey born and raised model, and she has done collaborations with brands like Fabletics, Boohoo, and Fashion Nova. Her signature hashtag is #stylenotsize, and her videos are body positive and celebrate inclusivity! Some of her most viewed videos on TikTok feature her and her best friend, who is a smaller size than her, wearing the same outfit. These videos give off strong feminist energy, and they make the point that everyone is beautiful and size does not mean a thing!

Zahraa Berro

Zahraa Berro is a mom, modest fashion, and lifestyle blogger, and as a woman who wears hijab, her videos show how to create stylish and elevated looks that still observe personal values. This doesn’t mean non hijabis can’t get inspiration though! I love her neutral palette and the way she incorporates layering into her looks. Trust me, she’s worth a checkout, and I cannot get over how her makeup videos, hijab tutorials, and styling tips are always on point!

TikTok has been a game changer for the fashion industry, and it is providing ways for influencers to try different creative strategies. Gone are the days of only posting an outfit picture on Instagram, and I think we can agree that these eye catching videos are more engaging and let you see a different side of creators!
